Schumacher gets DTM outing with Mercedes

Writer: Erreà AUErreà AU

European Formula 3 driver Mick Schumacher will get behind the wheel of DTM machinery for the first time at this weekend’s Nurburgring round.

Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael, will drive Mercedes’ AMG C63 DTM car in a demo run on Friday, after receiving an invitation from ITR chairman and former F1 driver Gerhard Berger.

The 19-year-old German, who finished runner-up in both the 2016 German and Italian F4 championships, currently sits fourth in the 2018 European Formula 3 standings, 36 points behind current series leader and Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum. Schumacher has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in his second full season in the championship with Prema, recording his maiden victory at Spa before sealing a further two wins at Silverstone and the recent round at Misano.
