Looking towards Tokyo 2020: the volleyball qualification rounds have been officially announced

The composition of the twelve Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournaments to be played in August have now been officially announced, and they provide a first opportunity to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The qualifiers will begin with the women’s tournament, to be played from2 to 4 August, when Davide Mazzanti’s World Championship runners up will be playing two Erreà teams, namely Netherlands and Belgium as well as Kenya.

The following week it will be the turn of the men when Gianlorenzo Blengini’s Italian national team, will play Serbia, Australia e Cameroon between 9 and 11 August. By the end of January, the FIVB will have announced the venues for the twelve tournaments. Twelve men’s and twelve women’s teams will compete in the Olympic tournament in Tokyo and of these, Japan, as the host country, are already guaranteed a slot. An additional place per continent will go to the winners of the January 2020 tournaments.
